As for the rest of you the campsite will open from 8am on Thursday Thursday, 26th August. Try to be as early as you can the good spots get taken very quickly! Have a place to meet with your mates a couple times a day. Remember that reusable bottle we mentioned earlier? Make sure you are giving yourself multiple drinks breaks in between your moshing sessions!
Staying super energetic gets well tricky on an empty stomach. The Reading site is pretty wham but there are a few things you can do to make it feel a bit less like a maze. No matter how good your memory is, in the dark or even daylight for that matter all tents can look the same.
So take note of any landmarks around your campsite like pathways, trees or fire towers. Bringing your own flag to mark your tent makes this a lot easier. Need pointing in the right direction? Then the info tents are there to help with any questions you may have.

Here are some easy ways to make sure all your things stay untouched over the weekend. You may be ejected and handed over to the police. Check out our Personal Safety section for more info. If you want to take a break from drinking, there is always flavoured oxygen.
Considering the timing of the event, the weather is likely to be warm with too much booze leaving attendees vulnerable to dehydration.
So make sure if you're enjoy Pimm's, beer, wine or another drink of choice you're also pairing it with water. Besides you'll either end up having to leave early, ruining your outfit or missing your favourite act in favour making a mad dash to the toilets.
However you get to the festival, make sure you pack sensibly. If you're camping there are some things to remember to make sure you don't wake up in a puddle of mud wondering where you left your tent. Don't bring more than you can carry. If you can't fit it in your bag, or lash it to the outside, it's not going with you. There's always a hefty queue to get into the campsite and you're going to have to do a fair bit of walking, so only bring what you really need. Choose your camping spot carefully.
The closest campsites to the main arena are the messiest so if you actually want a bit of sleep over the weekend you're probably best to go further along.
Also, don't camp at the edge of a pathway — if it buckets down you'll end up part of a mud swamp. Remember to judge your toilet distance. Not too close so you have to curl up under a green cloud, but not too far that you can't find your way back from an early hours visit. Carters in Caversham Road, about half a mile from the site, is the place to go if you've forgotten essential outdoor equipment. The shop, website here , sells every outdoor item you can imagine, including portable toilets, so festival-goers are well catered for.
Police will be visible throughout the festival and at all entrance points. Crime is much lower than it used to be in the old days of the Reading Festival but with 90, people on site it makes sense to stay safe.
Thefts from tents are still the biggest crime so don't bring anything that you're not prepared to lose. If you have to bring valuables there are onsite lockers available.
Only bring as much cash as you need to get you through the day and keep cards and ID on your person. The battery will go flat anyway and the BBC do a much better job of filming the festival than you will 16 rows back. Also be wary of ticket touts, although policing are cracking down , it's best to buy your tickets from the festival directly.
Thames Valley Police will be carrying out high-visibility patrols on the site and in surrounding areas. Call for non-emergency incidents. Police at the festival are friendly and approachable but they will deal robustly with thieves and troublemakers and they will take action if they think you have drugs.
